The AI Revolution Came for Game Marketing First
While the industry argues about whether AI belongs in game development, AI has quietly taken over the other half of the business: selling the games. On September 16, Toronto marketing agency Twelvio announced a strategic partnership with WIDER, an AI creative engine that turns live campaign data and competitor intelligence into launch ready advertising for gaming brands. The pitch is simple and, for anyone who has watched ad costs climb, persuasive: targeting is automated, bidding is automated, and creative was the last human bottleneck.
WIDER's approach reads like a game played against the market itself. The platform plugs into a brand's ad accounts, studies what actually drives results, and reads live competitor ad libraries across the category, showing what rivals are running, how long each ad has survived, and which concepts are gaining momentum. It then generates the response: UGC style clips, reaction videos, gameplay ads, statics, motion creative, and playable ads, prepared for Meta, AppLovin, Liftoff, Moloco, Unity, and Google, localized by language and market with the relevant disclaimers built in. It even flags creative fatigue before the decay shows up in standard performance reports.
The insight underneath is about the economics of attention. A winning ad rarely collapses overnight; it quietly gets more expensive while the budget keeps running, and marketing teams struggle to hand craft enough fresh concepts, formats, and localizations to keep pace. WIDER CEO Jonathan Karmi frames it as a throughput problem: gaming teams are rich in ideas and starved for output, and his engine lets a team of two ship what used to take an agency a full quarter. Founded in July 2025, the company has already completed two funding rounds at a valuation in the tens of millions and works with more than 50 gaming brands across North America and Europe.
Twelvio brings the distribution muscle: brand strategy, performance marketing, media buying, and a network of operators, providers, and affiliates across social casino, sports fantasy, and iGaming. The partnership will be on display at the SBC Summit in Lisbon from September 29 to October 1, alongside Twelvio's Retarget.gg platform, which recovers value from visitors the initial campaigns miss. Together the two products cover both ends of the funnel: WIDER brings players in, Retarget.gg squeezes value from the visitors who slip away.
Zoom out and the pattern is bigger than one partnership. The first places AI transforms an industry are rarely the glamorous ones; they are the repetitive, data rich workflows where scale beats inspiration. Game marketing, with its endless appetite for fresh creative across dozens of markets, is exactly that kind of workflow. The studios will keep debating AI in art and code for years. Meanwhile the marketing departments have already moved on, and they are shipping.
For players, this lands as a subtle upgrade to the ads you actually see: more relevant creative, in your language, reflecting the games people are actually playing. For developers, especially small teams, it levels a playing field that used to belong to whoever could afford an agency retainer. The AI era in gaming is here, and it arrived wearing a media buyer's headset.
