Claude Just Became One Thing: Anthropic Folds Chat, Cowork, Design, Docs, and Slides Into a Single Interface
Anthropic announced on Wednesday that it is combining the chat and Cowork features of its Claude AI assistant into a single interface, and folding its visual work tool, Claude Design, into the same surface. The company also launched Claude Docs and Claude Slides in beta, so documents, presentations, and visual designs can now be created inside one continuous conversation. The practical shape of the change is straightforward. A user describes the work, and Claude determines which capabilities the task calls for, then deploys them automatically. The new document tools export finished work to Google Docs or Microsoft Word, and presentations export to PowerPoint or PDF files, so anything that starts as a chat can land exactly where a team already does its work. The export angle is the enterprise unlock: Claude meets people inside the formats their companies already require.
The redesign answers direct user feedback. Anthropic said people were frustrated by having to choose the right tool before starting a task, so the company removed the choice. The assistant reads the request and assembles its own combination of conversation, research, visual design, and document production. The mental overhead of tool selection moves from the user to the model, which is a quiet kind of magic that compounds with every session.
The timing lands two months after OpenAI's July launch of ChatGPT Work, which combined its chatbot with its Codex coding tool. The two companies are racing for the same territory: enterprise customers and professionals who write, plan, present, and build for a living. The interface race is turning into a disappearance race, with each lab betting that the assistant wins by becoming the place where work happens rather than one more app to open.
The rollout begins with Pro and Max subscribers across web, desktop, and mobile over the coming weeks, then extends to Team and Free plans. Starting with the heaviest users keeps the feedback loop tight: the people whose frustration triggered the redesign get the unified workspace first, and their usage will shape what Team and Free users receive later. What ships to everyone will have been battle tested by the power users.
