Capcom's TGS Spotlight Confirmed the Switch 2 Era: AAA Now Ships to the Handheld
Capcom opened Tokyo Game Show 2026 with a 40 minute Capcom Spotlight on September 16, streamed on YouTube with subtitles in 13 languages. The main show runs September 17 through 21 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan, celebrating the event's 30th anniversary with its first ever five day format and more than 1,000 exhibitors. The lineup tells the story of a publisher building for every screen. Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen arrives October 9, 2026 for Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC, with its first playable demo at the show. Mega Man: Dual Override is set for 2027 across seven platforms, from the original Switch and PlayStation 4 all the way to Switch 2, PS5, and Xbox Series X. Onimusha: Way of the Sword, released September 4, and Pragmata, available now worldwide, both ship on Switch 2 alongside PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC. Street Fighter 6, also available now, rounds out the Switch 2 representation.
The Switch 2's presence across five of the six tentpoles is the headline hiding inside the schedule. Nintendo's new hardware has become a first class target for AAA planning, treated as a launch platform in its own right. The engine technology explains why: Unreal Engine 5.8 runs Lumen, Epic's global illumination system, at 60 frames per second on Switch 2, a milestone that turns the handheld into a credible home for the same lighting pipelines that power living room consoles.
The rest of the booth fills out the picture. Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, the expansion for Capcom's flagship series, gets its first playable demo for PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC. Monster Hunter Outlanders brings the series to Android and iOS. Partner exhibits include a Resident Evil 7 themed airsoft shooting range with Tokyo Marui and a Street Fighter exhibition tied to the movie arriving October 16, 2026.
For players, the message is that the platform walls keep getting lower. The same Capcom game now launches on a handheld, a console, and a PC in the same window, with the engine doing the heavy lifting underneath. Tokyo Game Show's biggest week is really a showcase for an industry that finally builds once and ships everywhere, and with five of six tentpoles headed to the Switch 2, Nintendo's new hardware sits at the center of that promise.
