Salesforce and Nvidia Just Shipped Koa, an Enterprise Reasoning Model Trained on Zero Customer Data
Salesforce and Nvidia unveiled Koa at Dreamforce on Tuesday, Salesforce's first reasoning model and a direct answer to a question enterprises have asked for two years: why send our data to a frontier lab when we could run our own model instead. Koa is built on Nvidia's open weight Nemotron model, post trained by the two companies to reason through sales, marketing and customer support work inside Salesforce's Agentforce platform.
The training story is the breakthrough. Koa learned from zero customer data. Salesforce and Nvidia built the training corpus entirely from synthetic scenarios modeled on 27 years of Salesforce CRM deployments across more than 14 industries, including manufacturing, financial services, healthcare and travel. They simulated customer service centers staffed by persona professionals, from callers with complaints to salespeople closing deals, then mapped the sequence of actions and tool calls an agent must take to finish each job. Post training used supervised fine tuning and reinforcement learning with Nvidia's NeMo tools.
The result, Salesforce says, is a model that matches or beats leading models on its CRM Benchmark of real world tasks like updating opportunities, routing cases and scheduling followups, with three times fewer errors. It also burns fewer tokens per task, which trims AI spending, and it runs inside the customer's own trust boundary. Chief executive Marc Benioff said the most valuable thing Salesforce built is the accumulated knowledge of how enterprise business actually works, and Koa puts that knowledge inside the model itself. Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang added that Nemotron's open models gave Salesforce the foundation to turn decades of enterprise expertise into specialized AI.
Koa is already working inside Salesforce, including a Slack agent that helps employees find information, and it is moving into customer pilots with Baxter Credit Union, Engine, Formula 1, UChicago Medicine and Xero. Salesforce is keeping its frontier partnerships too: the recent Claudeforce deal puts Claude inside Salesforce as the AI interface while data stays in Salesforce's system of record. Koa simply becomes another option in the Agentforce AI gateway, the router that picks which model handles each request.
For enterprise buyers, the menu just expanded in an important way. The choice is less about which frontier lab gets your data. It is about whether a lab gets your data at all. Task specific open weight models that run inside your walls, trained on synthetic expertise instead of your secrets, are about to become the default question in every AI vendor negotiation.
