Bitcoin ETFs Just Pulled In One Billion Dollars Across Three Trading Days
Bitcoin's quiet bid just got loud. US spot Bitcoin ETFs pulled in $1.01 billion in net inflows across three trading days, including $730.8 million on September 3 alone, according to Bitfinex analysts quoted in Dow Jones market talk. Bitcoin traded near $77,000 through the stretch, holding firm while Treasury yields climbed and Fed expectations shifted by the hour.
The macro setup is the whole game this week. August CPI printed at 3.4 percent year over year, with gasoline up more than 25 percent driving the headline. Markets are split heading into the Fed's September 15 to 16 meeting: about 70 percent of economists in a Reuters poll expect the rate to hold at 3.50 to 3.75 percent, while the rest expect a quarter point hike, the first since July 2023. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh has given little forward guidance, and his hawkish Jackson Hole speech plus oil back above $100 a barrel have traders pricing in more tightening.
Here is the angle the headlines miss: this Bitcoin rally is built on allocation, with speculative leverage staying muted. Sygnum Bank investment chief Fabian Dori flagged that distinction, noting that institutional allocation is driving the move. When buyers are portfolio allocators instead of leveraged traders, pullbacks get bought and rallies have a floor.
The numbers back it up. 21Shares strategist Matt Mena notes Bitcoin has averaged gains of 2.13 percent in the 30 days after hotter than expected core CPI prints, a pattern that keeps repeating. Bitget analyst Lewis Huang puts the line in the sand at $76,270: holding above it shows underlying demand staying resilient through rate uncertainty. August's 24 percent gain, Bitcoin's best month since November 2024, was powered by the same dynamic, with Strategy resuming its purchases and ETF demand stacking up.
Energy driven inflation is the wild card. Headline CPI is accelerating on gasoline while core inflation keeps easing, which gives the Fed room to look through the headline number. If the September meeting delivers a hold, the path of least resistance for Bitcoin points higher into the fourth quarter, a stretch Mena calls potentially one of crypto's biggest since the Trump election.
The takeaway for holders is structural. A billion dollars in three days of ETF buying is the market voting with size, for Bitcoin as a portfolio allocation rather than a short term trade. Fed week will move prices in both directions, but the bid underneath keeps getting deeper.
