Saber Pledges Zero AI in Space Marine 3, Jurassic Park
Saber Interactive just drew one of the brightest lines in gaming. The studio behind Space Marine 2 says there is absolutely zero generative AI in its biggest upcoming games: Space Marine 3, Hellraiser: Revival, Jurassic Park: Survival, Turok, Stuntman: Hollywood, and a John Wick game. Every texture, every line, every frame, made by human hands.
This is the part everyone else will miss. Saber is selling the absence of a technology as a feature. Games Workshop, the company behind Warhammer, holds a strict policy keeping generative AI out of its content, and Saber just turned that constraint into a badge of honor. In an era where players argue over which games were made by people, human crafted is becoming a premium label, the organic sticker of game development.
The pledge lands one month after a very public fight. A former writer on Saber's Rideshare Stimulator said AI tools replaced her, the CEO fired back in public, and Saber eventually confirmed the game does use AI, adding a disclosure to its Steam page. Campaign mode uses AI generated voice, Free Ride uses AI written dialogue, and the radio stations mix human and AI music. Same studio, two postures: the flagship titles stay purely human while the small arcade experiment runs AI.
At Gamescom, Saber chief creative officer Tim Willits called Rideshare a small bet, a learning experiment. He says the industry is still figuring out where AI lands, and he believes some developer, somewhere, will stumble on the brilliant use case that makes everyone nod at once. Until that day arrives, the flagship games stay human.
The numbers back the pledge. The 2026 State of the Game Industry survey asked more than 2,300 developers how they feel about generative AI. 52 percent say it is bad for the industry, up from 30 percent last year. Only 7 percent call it positive. Indie studios now advertise zero AI the way others advertise ray tracing.
Here is what to watch. The next time a splash screen brags that human hands made the game, remember the price of that promise: slower production, bigger teams, real craft. Saber is betting players will pay for it. Given how fast the zero AI badge is spreading, that bet keeps looking smarter.
